What is World Water Day?
March 22 is World Water Day, but we at StemFoods Holistics celebrate all month long.
"World Water Day is on 22 March every year. It is an annual United Nations Observance, started in 1993, that celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2 billion people currently living without access to safe water. A core focus of World Water Day is to inspire action towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030." (worldwaterday.org)
World Water Day emphasizes the importance of water conservation. It specifically addresses groundwater, which is located underground, in aquifers. Aquifers are geological formations that hold water and are crucial in our survival. Typically, these aquifers are constantly getting refilled by rain water, but in some parts of the world this water gets used up faster than it can be replenished. In other cases, these aquifers get contaminated and can’t be used at all.
We encourage other organizations--big and small--to join the worldwide effort to conserve our planet's water.
We, as a company, will be celebrating by making March 22 an annual holiday for all our associates in exchange for them promoting or sharing World Water Day with anyone they choose.
In the coming days, we will be sharing ways in which we can all participate in protecting this precious resource.
